Petra tickets and opening hours 2026.
Updated October 2026
A one-day Petra ticket costs 50 Jordanian dinars if you spend at least one night in Jordan, 55 for two days and 60 for three. Visitors who do not stay a night pay 90. Children under 12 enter free, and the site opens at 6 every morning.
Ticket prices
Petra has two prices: one for visitors who sleep at least one night in Jordan, and a higher one for day visitors who cross a border, see Petra and leave the same day. If you are staying with us, you pay the first.
| Ticket | Price |
|---|---|
| One day | 50 JD |
| Two consecutive days | 55 JD |
| Three consecutive days | 60 JD |
| Day visitor, no night in Jordan | 90 JD |
| Children under 12 | Free |
Two-day and three-day tickets must be used on consecutive days. Visitors who arrive from a border and go straight to Petra on their first day pay the day-visitor price at the gate and can claim back 40 JD at the Visitor Centre the next day, once they have spent the night. Keep your ticket and your hotel receipt.
Prices are set by the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority. Check visitpetra.jo before you travel.
The Jordan Pass
The Jordan Pass is a single online purchase that covers your Jordanian tourist visa and the entry to Petra and more than forty other sites, including Wadi Rum, Jerash and the castles. It comes in three versions, which differ only in the number of days in Petra.
| Pass | Petra |
|---|---|
| Jordan Wanderer | One day in Petra |
| Jordan Explorer | Two consecutive days in Petra |
| Jordan Expert | Three consecutive days in Petra |
The visa fee is waived only if you stay at least three consecutive nights in Jordan. Buy it at jordanpass.jo before you fly, print it or keep it on your phone, and show it at the Petra gate. If you are flying into Amman and staying a few days, it is almost always cheaper than paying the visa and the Petra ticket separately.
The Jordan Pass does not include Petra by Night, which has its own ticket. See our Petra by Night guide.
Opening hours
Petra opens at 6 in the morning every day of the year. It closes earlier in winter than in summer: in the cold months the last visitors leave in the late afternoon, in summer around 6 in the evening. The exact times change with the season, so check the board at the Visitor Centre the day before.
The first hour is the best hour. The light comes down the walls of the Siq, the Treasury is in shade and almost empty, and the coaches from Amman and Aqaba do not arrive until mid-morning. From Edom Hotel the gate is a one-minute walk, so you can be there when it opens.
Where to buy
- At the Visitor Centre, at the top of the main gate, by card or cash. This is where most people buy.
- Online, through the Authority’s ticket site linked from visitpetra.jo.
- The Jordan Pass, bought online before you travel.
What the ticket includes
The ticket covers the whole site, from the Siq and the Treasury to the Monastery, the Royal Tombs and the High Place of Sacrifice, for the days on it. It does not include horse, donkey or camel rides beyond the short horse ride at the entrance, guides, or Petra by Night. Little Petra, ten kilometres north, has no ticket at all.
